CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
The chief aim of Christian Education at the Parish of the Good Shepherd is for all of God’s beloved children to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18 KJV). We do this by offering faith formation programs for all ages, as well as by holding intergenerational events for the entire community.
CHURCH SCHOOL
Church School is offered for children in pre-kindergarten through grade 5. Two classes meet most Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. (September–June), at which time both classes join our Choral Eucharist for the Peace and Holy Communion.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation instruction is generally offered for youth entering grades 7 and 8 (and above). Confirmation meets a few Sunday evenings each month beginning with Celtic Eucharist from 5:30–6:15 p.m. and followed by Confirmation Class from 6:30–7:30 p.m (September–June). Students also attend an annual retreat at the Barbara C. Harris Camp in March and make a pilgrimage to England in June following their first year of the program. The Rite of Confirmation is typically celebrated in late spring/early summer following completion of the two-year program.
DO LOVE
Do Love Sunday is offered for high school students who have been confirmed. Gathering once a month on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. following the 5:30 p.m. Celtic Eucharist (September–June), we make a meal together, prepare a meal to send out into the community, and enjoy a time of fellowship and fun.
WAYS TO INTERACT POST-CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Adult Forum gathers on Sunday mornings at 11:45 a.m. in the Loring Room (and on Zoom). Enjoy Coffee Hour refreshments following the 10:00 a.m. service then join in the Loring Room for lecture, study, and discussion. Currently, we are studying and discussing Becoming Beloved Community, which guides The Episcopal Church’s work toward racial reconciliation, healing and justice.

Bible Study is offered weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30–7:30 p.m. (year-round). We meet on Zoom and study the lectionary readings assigned for the upcoming Sunday’s liturgy. We also devote time to prayer during each session. Because we meet on Zoom, one can participate from anywhere in the world! Please feel free to invite family and friends wherever they may be. The link for Bible Study is shared in the Parish’s weekly email newsletter on Fridays.
Along with the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Massachusetts, we are committed to Safe Church, Safe Communities for the protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Come, journey with us as disciples of Jesus the Good Shepherd!
